Firestar rose flourishes at Toolangi

This June, members of the local Toolangi community were treated to the official planting of the Firestar Rose at the Toolangi Fire Station.

Murrindindi Shire Councillor Chris Ruhr and official CFA representatives were joined by small crowd of people from the community, members from the Toolangi Community Recovery Committee, Parks Victoria and the State Forest, along with Victorian nurseryman Robert Wakelam representing Knight’s Roses.

Robert Wakelam together with Toolangi brigade Captain Ben Rose planted the rose outside the fire station.

Captain Rose said the rose was symbolic in recognising the many dedicated CFA members who worked hard to serve the community. “Having the launch of the Firestar Rose at the station is a real stepping stone for the recovery of the Toolangi, Castella and Chum Creek communities who were heavily impacted by the 2009 fires,” he said.

“Like the lifecycle of the rose, the community and the brigade will continue to regenerate as we work through the recovery process.”

Mr Wakelam said he and Knight’s were delighted to be able to make a meaningful contribution to CFA.

“The Firestar Rose started as a seed of an idea and has now grown into a long-term partnership with CFA. I am delighted to have produced a rose that will provide additional support and funds for CFA to continue its vital work in communities such as Toolangi.”

Many people at the event agreed that the rose was a true symbol of the regeneration of life and the start of new beginning.
