KNIGHT'S ROSES

In the early 1950’s Knight’s Roses was founded by brothers George, Julius and Ian Knight, who decided to grow a few roses for the wholesale market.

It was a bootstrap start up – their bride’s were their only labourers, technical information came from the local municipal library, and root stock from the wild briars and borsal, cut from creek beds and road verges.

Since then the business has had three generations of the family working within it, with the current owner Daniel Knight planting his first roses in 1985.

Today the farm straddles 100 picturesque acres on the edge of the Barossa Valley.

Starting with just 5000 roses a year in the 1950’s, Knight’s Roses now grow over 350,000 roses annually, with clients all over Australia and its territories.

The initial “big ticket” varieties such as Mr Lincoln, Blue Moon and Peace are still among their top sellers with new varieties from International breeders now complementing the market.

Knight’s Roses are currently Australian agents for world leading breeders such as Rosen-Tantau (Germany), Harkness Roses (UK), James Cocker and Son (Scotland), and Guillot Roses (France).

The obsession continues for Julius, Daniel and his family, not just for growing roses, but for what a rose can achieve as a symbol and a fundraiser for worthwhile causes.
